We are born to become free. Freedom is defined from different aspects, and according to different cultures, freedom varies from culture to another. Some define freedom as a natural right, the human being is born with. Everyone wants to be free and independent from others. Shanel, our upcoming model for interview is no different. Let’s hear her out now!

1. Tell us more about yourself and the modeling industry, how it all started and what inspired it.
I’m Shanel. Same pronunciation as Chanel but starts with a S, and I’m 20 this year. Having freelance modeling as a full time.
I prefer having jobs in different kind of job scope, different places, running about. I’m a person who loves freedom, & carefree environment. So i can’t really work in places like offices or retail lines. But for events are not, it’s held at different locations and different jobscope to meet and socialise with different people and gain more experience.
I’d taken up photo shoots and some events/roadshows during my school days, and i wasn’t really active as i was still schooling. And my first official event was Asia AutoSalon held at Singapore Expo, after i graduated from my studies. It inspired me to move on more into this line, as it’s really my goals and character to work in carefree environment and socialize with people out there. It’s like having own time own target working lives and really don’t have to be under anyone’s command.
2. What would be the next upcoming/latest project that we can expect?
It would be a long term event; around a year. Might be up on television as well. The Garnier Skincare Ambassador.
3. Where do you see yourself heading in the next 5 years?
I would go for my goals and pursue my dreams. As from young, Air-Stewardess was my ambition. I bet that’s alot of girl’s dreams too (: As mentioned earlier, I love freedom & carefree life & environment.
Working as a Air-Stewardess, is always flying and going around different places of the world. It represents the carefree feel when you’re on the plane, and the freedom feel when you arrived at different countries to experience the culture there.
Nevertheless, I’ll still keep my modeling industry as a sideline even one day I’d succeed in fulfilling my dreams. As it’s gaining experiences and knowledge of how to socialize and handle situations out there, it benefits in the air-stewardess line too. Even I’ll not get famous someday in the modeling industry, but at least I tried. And of course I’ll work hard to make it come true definitely.
4. Use a word or phrase (you feel) describes yourself best
There’s a will, there’s a way.
5. What have you gained from your past experiences?
I’ve learnt to express myself more and better to people out there and even my respond was much faster and doing things in a better way. Made a lot of friends [models/talents] and we often exchange our experience and different situations we’d came across etc. This industry had made me a smarter person? Exact to say, for photo shoots often we’d want photographers to approach us in different ways despite not knowing who they are or where they had our information from. So I tend to check and ask a few questions before agree to take up their offer for shoots. It need some skills of questions to know whether are they genuine photographers or just a scam. Well, this expand my experiences and knowledge in this line as modeling industry is really big and complicated at times. No fear of depth..
6. Any advices for novices who are committed to succeed in your industry?
Practice makes perfect. Strong Determinations and Perseverance are really important in the industry. Though you’ve met different obstacles and difficulties, just always have Confidence and Faith in yourself. Even you’re not a Diamond that every female loves, you might be a jade that someone would love and appreciate. So, love yourself!
